Rod is an independent Environmental Hydrogeologist with over 25 years of proven experience in hydrogeology, hydrology and environmental science. He provides consultancy services to a range of clients including mining companies, water service providers, local government and the agricultural and horticultural industries.

As an independent consultant Rod has an emphasis on water and environmental permitting, water supply security and compliance reporting. He provides groundwater and surface water technical advice and mentors environmental teams.

His most recent projects have included an investigation into the potential impact of landfills on water resources for local governments in the WA wheatbelt and strategic planning advice and pre-feasibility studies for mining projects in the Pilbara, WA.

Rod has extensive experience in preparing hydrogeology assessments (H1, H2, H3), EIAs, works approvals, clearing permits, management plans, AERs and groundwater compliance reports. Rod’s previous experience includes working at the Department of Water (DoW) as a Senior Regional Hydrogeologist where he had responsibility for water resource management and licensing in the Swan-Avon Catchment and Goldfields Region in WA. At the DoW, Rod provided technical advice and expertise to government and to proponents concerning the management of water resources and the impacts on the environment from the take of surface and groundwater.

His experience includes two years at Outback Ecology (now MWH global) as a Principal Environmental Hydrogeologist, a decade of experience doing research into water related land degradation and mangement in the WA wheatbelt and research into rural water supply security. He also spent many of his early years as an exploration geologist.

With strong leadership, communication, mentoring and business development skills spanning government, consulting and the private sector, Rod is skilled in telling the story of geology and environmental water to non-practitioners. His goal is to contribute to the effective management of the environment and water resources in Western Australia.
